Borco Ilin

Borco Ilin is a museographer and Head of PR at the Banat Village Museum in Timișoara, a writer-photographer, and a cultural marketer dedicated to living heritage.

Holding a PhD in museum cultural policies and anthropological photography, he blends scholarship with hands-on programming, exhibitions, and storytelling. He authored the photo-ethnographic albums Al cincilea anotimp (The Fifth Season), Memoria albă (White Memory), and Pandemie de păpădie (Dandelion Pandemic), and received Timiș County’s “Pro Cultura” Award. His outreach—such as turning dandelions into a museum “influencer”—shows how he reframes tradition for today’s audiences.

Ilin also champions sustainability through the museum’s “Țăranul smart” (Smart Peasant) identity, a European-minded anti-waste concept celebrating Banat pantry culture (șpais), seasonality, and resourcefulness—now being registered as a trademark. A bilingual Romanian–Serbian communicator, he forges links between artisans, producers, educators, and the public, embedding gastronomy in broader cultural narratives.

As Ambassador for the Banat European Region of Gastronomy 2028, he brings the credibility of a museum professional and the creativity of a storyteller—linking tradition, sustainability, and multicultural dialogue to showcase Banat’s bold flavors on a European stage.
